In the epic poem The Conference of the Birds, the birds seeking Simurgh (or transcendence) finally arrive at a place where the mythical bird is supposed to reside. Upon entering the castle, they discover that instead of the bird, there’s a pond reflecting the image of the 30 birds back unto themselves.
